About Us

Founded in 1976 A.D, in Lagantole, Kathmandu, Gautam High School has served as a cornerstone of education and community development for nearly five decades. The school is committed to providing quality education that is both accessible and affordable for local families.

It was established by Shanti Maya Shrestha, a visionary educator and Nepali immigrant who returned from Burma. She began her career as a pre-school teacher at EPS. Coming from humble beginnings, Shanti Maya understood the transformative power of education and the challenges many families face in accessing it. This understanding inspired her to create a school where children from ordinary families could receive the same high-quality education as anyone else.

Through her dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts, she built more than just an institution—she created a community of learning, opportunity, and hope. At Gautam High School, education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. The school believes in nurturing students academically and personally, helping them develop confidence, discipline, creativity, and the practical skills needed for success in life.

Serving students from early childhood through Grade 10, Gautam High School has proudly educated generations of children from Lagantole and surrounding communities, with programs focused on holistic development to ensure that students grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally.

Guided by a strong commitment to community upliftment and rooted in solid values, Gautam High School continues to evolve while remaining true to its founding principle: quality education should be available to everyone, not just a privileged few. Today, Shanti Maya Shrestha's legacy lives on through the students, teachers, and families associated with the school. The institution remains focused on her original vision: to uplift society by empowering children through education, creating an environment where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a stable future.

Mission Statement

At Gautam High School, the mission is to nurture children not just as students, but as responsible individuals. While the school provides a strong academic foundation aligned with national standards, it believes that education goes beyond textbooks, grades, and examinations. Inspired by the vision of founder Shanti Maya Shrestha, Gautam High School aims to create an environment where every child has the opportunity to grow, explore, and discover their potential, regardless of whether they are straight-A students or not.

The goal is to guide children toward becoming kind sons and daughters, thoughtful friends, and meaningful contributors to their communities. By focusing on education, character development, creativity, and real-life learning, the school helps students build the values, confidence, and resilience they need to lead fulfilling lives. At Gautam High School, it is believed that true education shapes both the mind and the heart.

Vision Statement

The vision of Gautam High School is to create a school community where children develop into compassionate, capable, and responsible individuals, prepared for both academic success and life itself. The school strives to be a place where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered; where curiosity is encouraged, talents are discovered, and personal growth is prioritized alongside academic achievement.

By honoring the founder's legacy and upholding the values passed down through generations, Gautam High School aims to foster a learning environment that teaches students that education is only one aspect of becoming fully human. Through a commitment to balance, opportunity, and guidance, the school aspires to nurture young people who will lead with integrity, uplift their communities, and embody compassion and responsibility throughout their lives.

Message from the CEO

Gautam High School holds a very special place in my life. This school was founded by my grandmother, Shanti Maya Shrestha, whose belief in the power of education continues to inspire everything we do today.

My grandmother returned to Nepal from Burma and began her journey in education as a preschool teacher at EPS. Through her experiences, she saw how many families struggled to access good education for their children. Because of that, she made it her life’s goal to create a school where quality education could be available at a price that ordinary families could afford. In 1976, she established Gautam High School, and from that moment, the school became a place where opportunity and community came together.

Growing up around the school and hearing her story shaped the way I think about education. Today, as the CEO of Gautam High School, I feel a deep responsibility to continue what she started.

For me, a school should not only focus on grades and examinations. Of course, academics matter, but the years children spend in school are also the years when they learn how to become people. They learn how to treat others, how to face challenges, how to work together, and how to understand the world around them.

Not every student will be a straight-A student, and that should never define their worth or potential. What truly matters is that our students grow into responsible, respectful, and compassionate individuals who care about their families and communities.

I believe success in life cannot be measured by marks alone. Becoming a good son or daughter, supporting others, contributing positively to society, and living with integrity are achievements just as meaningful as academic success.

My hope for Gautam High School is that it continues to be a place where children feel supported as they grow, learn, and discover their own paths in life. Carrying forward my grandmother’s legacy is both an honor and a responsibility that I take very seriously.

Thank you to the families and community members who continue to place their trust in Gautam High School.
