Gargi Kanya Gurukul formerly known as Shree Ram Janaki Gargi Kanya Gurukulam is a traditional Vedic school located in the sacred Devghatdham area of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-8, Chitwan, Nepal. It is a religious and spiritual educational institution that blends ancient Vedic traditions with modern education. It is one of Nepal’s pioneering institutions dedicated to providing quality education to girls in a traditional Gurukul setting.
The school was originally established in 2075 BS as Shree Ram Janaki Gargi Kanya Gurukulam through the merger of two institutions: Gargi Kanya Gurukul (from Maligaun, Kathmandu) and Ram Janaki Vidyashram (from Chitwan). In 2080 BS, it was renamed Gargi Kanya Gurukul for simplicity. It has roots in earlier efforts to promote Vedic education for girls, with some references tracing its foundational work back to 2067 BS in Kathmandu.
Today, the school offers classes from Grade 6 to Grade 12. Alongside the general curriculum (including Compulsory English and Nepali), it provides specialized religious and Sanskrit-based programs in +2 level such as: Sanskrit Byakaran (Grammar), Sanskrit Bhasha (Language), Sanskrit Jyotish Shikshya (Astrology) and Sanskrit Miti Shastra. Its integrated curriculum also includes training in yoga, computer science, music, and multiple languages, encouraging students to grow intellectually, emotionally, and ethically. The education follows a modern Gurukul system rooted in Vedic traditions, aiming for holistic development that includes spiritual growth, cultural values, and practical skills.
Gargi Kanya Gurukul is a unique and visionary educational institution dedicated to nurturing young minds through a blend of modern education and ancient Vedic wisdom. The school’s main goal is to nurture students through a balanced combination of modern academic education and ancient Vedic wisdom. It creates a safe, serene, and spiritually enriching atmosphere in the holy pilgrimage site of Devghatdham. It is particularly known for promoting Vedic education for girls, which was historically limited in traditional Gurukuls. The institution regularly organizes religious programs such as Shreemad Bhagawat Saptah and other cultural events to strengthen spiritual values among students.
Inspired by the Gurukula tradition, it provides free education, accommodation, and healthy meals in a safe, child-friendly, and family-like environment.
