Professor Dr. Deepak Aryal, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, took the oath of office and secrecy today before Prime Minister and University Chancellor KP Sharma Oli. The event was attended by Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Raghuji Pant, among others.
Prof. Dr. Aryal was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University on Asar 25, 2082. Prime Minister and Chancellor of the university KP Sharma Oli appointed him as the Vice-Chancellor.
The post of Vice-Chancellor had remained vacant after the resignation of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral. Baral's resignation was officially approved on April 10, 2025. With the position left vacant, Rector Prof. Dr. Khadga KC was entrusted with the responsibility of leading TU as an Acting Vice-Chancellor for a period of three months.
Aryal's appointment follows a rigorous selection process conducted by the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee, which was formed to identify suitable candidates for the position. On Jestha 6, Prime Minister and TU Chancellor KP Sharma Oli established a three-member Vice-Chancellor Recommendation Committee, headed by Education Minister and Pro-Chancellor Raghuji Panta. Initially, 12 names were registered for the post. The committee had recommended the names of Acting VC Prof. Dr. Khadga KC, former Dean of the Faculty of Science, TU, Prof. Dr. Binil Aryal, and former Head of the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology TU, Dr. Deepak Aryal.

Dr Deepak Aryal is a professor and former head at the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (CDHM), Tribhuvan University. He is an Academician at NAST. He also serves as an Academician at NAST and is the Chairperson of the Society of Hydrologists and Meteorologists of Nepal (SOHAM-Nepal). With 26 years of extensive experience in meteorology, glaciology, air pollution, and aerosol field campaigns in both Japan and Nepal, he has made significant contributions to his field. He has authored numerous national and international publications and has presented his research at several prestigious international conferences, including AGU, EGU, AOGS, and JPGU.
He is the eldest son of late Bhairav Aryal, a renowned Nepali writer best known for his sharp satire, humour, and essays deeply rooted in Nepali society, culture, and politics .
