Ministry of Education Issues Nine Directives for Immediate Implementation
Degrees Offered in Nepal

Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel, has issued nine key directives for immediate implementation upon assuming office on the 13th. On the same day, he communicated with four higher education divisions and five school education divisions to implement these decisions. The directives have recently been made public.

The decisions are to be implemented immediately, within a month, or within a hundred days. As these directives pertain to specific divisions, the ministry has instructed that they must be carried out promptly. The ministry has directed the Examination Control Office to create a results portal, ensuring that the publication of campus and university results is predictable, and to provide transcripts within 15 days of the publication of results.

The second directive mandates the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for scientific mapping. This will help determine the number of schools needed due to population changes, geographical remoteness, student numbers, and distance, allowing for school adjustments (mergers) or new establishments.

Additionally, the school education curriculum is to be revised to incorporate practical project work that relates to Nepali society, culture, history, geography, local traditions, and school values. The ministry also directed that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) software be updated, and that NOCs should be issued within one day of an application being submitted, once an application ID is generated, holding relevant officials accountable.

All bodies have been informed regarding the implementation of these decisions, and the ministry will monitor compliance. The directive also instructs universities to arrange necessary procedural changes so that citizenship is not required for undergraduate-level studies.

Under the Compulsory and Free Education Act, 2075, privately funded schools and those operating under public educational trusts are required to coordinate with the relevant local authority and provide compulsory scholarships to students in accordance with the ratio stipulated by the Act.

Programs conducted by various institutions under the guise of entrance exam preparation classes or bridge courses for admission to various school levels are to be completely shut down by Baisakh 1. Additionally, programs targeting higher education that do not comply with existing laws must also be terminated.

The results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) should be published within one month of the examination's completion. For children without a birth registration certificate, arrangements will be made for their admission to school based on a certified statement of school birth registration from the local level.

All bodies have been assigned the responsibility of implementing these ministerial decisions. Minister Pokharel, who also serves as the government spokesperson, has emphasized that all entities must adhere to these directives, aimed at bringing immediate improvements to education.
