The 20th meeting of the Medical Education Commission, held on Ashad 32, 2082, has finalized the seat allocations for certificate-level programs in medical education, managed by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar and was chaired by Prime Minister and Commission Chairperson KP Sharma Oli. The Commission decided and approved the seat allocations based on the report presented, along with its monitoring and evaluation.

Currently, seats have been allocated to 285 educational institutions, including constituent colleges, non-profit institutions (such as partnerships), and private institutions. The meeting also discussed legal facilitation for allowing medical colleges to run the PCL Nursing program.

A draft of the fee structure for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs was tabled, prepared by a task force formed to recommend tuition fees for the upcoming academic session. Prime Minister Oli handed over the report submitted by the task force to the Commission’s Vice-Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, for further study and to present an implementation proposal.

The meeting also approved the Commission's programs and budget for the upcoming fiscal year, funded through internal resources.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Oli instructed preparations for timely amendments to the Medical Education Act, 2057, while addressing the meeting. He emphasized making the Commission more effective by limiting it to its actual jurisdiction and core responsibilities. He stated that the expansion and facilitation of the education sector should be based on maintaining quality rather than unplanned implementation.
