Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) has partnered with Swisscontact to introduce a new training and certification program to strengthen the teaching capacity of instructors in Nepal’s technical and vocational education sector.
The partnership was formalized on Friday through the signing of a grant agreement under the Quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Youth Project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) and supported by Swisscontact.
The program seeks to address Nepal’s persistent shortage of qualified TVET instructors by enhancing the pedagogical competencies of both new and experienced teachers. Project officials said improved instructor training is expected to raise the quality of vocational education and better align youth skills with labour market demands.
Under the initiative, instructors will be able to pursue recognized academic qualifications, including a Master’s in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (MTVET) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Technical and Vocational Instruction (PGDTVI).
The training will be open to instructors from diverse disciplines such as engineering, agriculture, health, hospitality, and the humanities. Courses will be delivered through a blended learning model, combining online instruction with face-to-face sessions, in collaboration with the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) and industry partners.
A key feature of the program is the recognition of prior learning. Participants will be awarded micro-credentials and credit transfers for relevant skills and training obtained from recognized institutions, particularly TITI. According to KUSOED, the program is scheduled for official launch in February 2026.
