Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has developed its own integrated attendance system to record the daily attendance of teachers, staff, and students of community schools. The system was jointly developed by the Education Department of KMC and the Department of Information Technology and has now been linked to community schools.
Usernames and passwords have already been provided to all schools. Data entry and facial recognition registration for teachers and staff have been completed at several schools including Janakalyan Secondary School, Tangal Secondary School, Geetamata Secondary School, Gyanodaya Secondary School, Tarun Secondary School, Ratna Rajya Secondary School, Padmodaya Secondary School, Janapath Secondary School, and Vishwa Niketan Secondary School .
Keshav Prasad Gyawali, Acting Chief of the Education Department informed that the process of entering student data and face reading is currently underway. The system was developed using the Metropolis’s internal human resources, reducing reliance on external consultants. Following its development, training was provided to school accounts and administrative staff. Schools will handle data entry, updates, and report generation, while KMC will monitor real-time information through a central system.
Chief of the Information Technology Department Anirudra Nepal said developing an in-house system is a major achievement, as the Metropolis no longer needs to depend on consultants. Information Technology Officer Engineer Madhav Khanal said that after entering the data into the system, there is a plan to link it to the Sub-National Treasury Regulatory Application (SuTRA).
The system will also function as a personal profile platform, allowing students to view their own details. KMC said it plans to further upgrade the system to send notifications to parents when students are absent.
