Far Western University (FWU) has officially launched a new undergraduate program, the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT), under the Faculty of Science and Technology. Introduced in Jestha 2082, the BIT program is designed to cater to the growing demand for skilled IT professionals in Nepal and beyond.
The four-year, eight-semester program aims to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in software development, networking, cybersecurity, data science, and other key areas of IT. The program totals 121 credit hours and aligns with national and international academic standards.
With this addition, FWU continues to strengthen its presence in the field of computer science and information technology. The university has been offering a B.Sc. CSIT since 2069 B.S. and M.Sc. CSIT since 2080 B.S. In response to increasing student interest, the university expanded its CSIT intake in 2081 and is now building further on that foundation through the BIT program.
The BIT curriculum includes a balance of core IT courses, electives, and project-based learning, culminating in an internship during the final semester. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared for diverse careers in software engineering, database administration, cybersecurity, and other rapidly growing technology fields.
Currently, the Central Department of Computer Science and Information Technology and Kailali Multiple Campus are offering the BIT program.
The program is open to students who have completed 10+2 or equivalent, with at least 100 full marks in Mathematics or Computer Science, and a minimum D grade or 1.8 GPA.
Admissions are now open for the 2082/2083 academic session. For detailed information regarding the application process, entrance exam dates, and eligibility, visit here.
With the launch of BIT, Far Western University reaffirms its commitment to preparing future-ready graduates equipped to meet national and global IT challenges.
