Forty school buildings are being rebuilt in Madhesh Province, including 20 in Siraha alone, under a joint initiative of BuildOn Nepal, Lahan Municipality, and the local community. The work has begun following the signing of a tripartite agreement among the concerned stakeholders.
Foundation stone has been laid for the construction of three-room buildings at Bhanu Basic School in Lahan-2, Basic School ( Adharbhut Vidyalaya) Singarahi Matiyarwa in Lahan-2, and Madhesh Shahid Vijay Sahani Basic School in Lahan-4. Each school will also have separate toilet facilities.
The contribution of voluntary labour from the community has been made mandatory during the implementation of the project. An estimated budget of Rs 4.98 million has been allocated for each school building. Of this, Rs 3.39 million will be provided by BuildOn Nepal, while Rs 1.5 million will be contributed by the local government.
According to Nirmala Chaudhary, Director of BuildOn Nepal’s central office in Dhangadhi, the organization supports schools in rural areas to enhance physical infrastructure. She added that voluntary labor from the local community is encouraged to ensure their sense of ownership over development initiatives and to promote the sustainability of such efforts.
