ABOUT
The Faculty of Agriculture (FoA), Agriculture and Forestry University, is located at Rampur, Chitwan. It is one of the three faculties under Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) in Nepal. The mission of FoA is to produce competent manpower in agriculture and allied disciplines. It encourages and supports faculty members and students in research and scholarly activities relevant to the needs of Nepalese agricultural and livestock farmers.
It is the most vital faculty within Agriculture and Forestry University, considering faculty strength, staff numbers, and the number of students enrolled in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Its excellence in teaching, research, and outreach activities in agriculture has been recognized at both the national and international levels. This faculty comprises nine departments and two centers, with 52 highly qualified faculty members involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supported by a team of 67 administrative and technical staff members. Recently, this faculty has expanded its undergraduate program (B.Sc. Ag.) through the College of Natural Resources Management, Puranchaur in Kaski.
FoA encourages, facilitates, and supports faculty members and students in research and scholarly activities relevant to the needs of concerned stakeholders. The faculty fosters student self-development, commitment, and responsibility toward the welfare of Nepalese society by imparting knowledge regarding the modernization and commercialization of the agriculture sector in a sustainable manner.
This faculty started its undergraduate program, B.Sc. Ag. (4 years), in 2069/70 BS at Rampur and since 2072/73 BS at Puranchaur in Kaski. Besides producing quality agriculture manpower, FoA is fully committed to the research and extension activities of the University. In this context, FoA aims to provide agricultural services to communities based on mutual cooperation through the establishment of Science Centers in different agro-ecological zones of the country.
Furthermore, competent faculty members conduct various research projects in collaboration with national and international organizations. The staff of the Faculty of Agriculture maintains strong working relationships with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Agriculture, Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC), National Agriculture Research and Development Fund (NARDF), LiBIRD, USAID/AVRDC, Winrock International, and others. The department also provides space and accommodation to conduct workshops, seminars, and related research activities involving participating faculty members from other countries. Additionally, FoA has partnerships with well-reputed universities abroad to support capacity building, enhance research and laboratory facilities, and promote faculty and student research.
